Kids Korner

Greetings!

What are we teaching?

The teaching of the entire Word of God is not complete until we communicate to children that the good news of Jesus Christ is not only for "Jerusalem," but for "Judea," "Samaria" and "the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). In our teaching we may even get as far as "Judea" (the need for their friends to hear about Jesus) but certainly not "the ends of the earth."

One reason for this is that Sunday School teachers feel unable to teach missions--something they know so little about. I find people want to get involved, but they feel inadequate as so few leaders had "world mission" input when they were younger. They find it difficult to model a "missions activist," so now our teenagers seem distinterested in missions.

Perhaps the most important reason for sharing missions with children is that God calls children. I often hear missionaries tell of receiving their "call" before their teen years. If we do not teach missions to our children we are denying them the opportunity to hear God's call.

"He called a little child and had him stand among them ...unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 18:2,3).

New Curriculum Program on Russia
Have you tried the Missions curriculum from The World Home Bible League called "Children Caring for Children?" They offer their program free to Sunday schools, Christian schools and VBS, focusing on their ministry of Scripture placement. The program offers a series of stories and posters which depicts the life changing effects of the Gospel in a particular child's life. Projects have been available for several years for Africa, Brazil, China, India, the Philippines, and now Russia. Write me for a brochure, or write or call the World Home Bible League, Children Caring For Children Ministry, 16801 Van Dam Road, South Holland, IL 60473-9976. (708) 331-2094.

Another new item is the Missionary Lessons called "What Does A Missionary Do?" by Lakeland Bible Mission, Inc., 3205 Kiess Road, Bucyrus OH 44820-9636. Their two previous programs have been used for some time. It contains five lessons, a song, a Memory verse, and illustrated visuals. The lesson is $10.95, plus tax and shipping -- $13.95.

God bless you! More next time.
