The Presbyterian Center for Mission Studies headquartered at the U.S. Center for World Mission reports that in 1988 Presbyterians gave $210,750 toward frontier mission and funded 13 projects. The 1989 budget is $373,000.

Former PCMS director Dr. Cody Watson and his new bride, Talulah, have accepted an assignment in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Cody has served with the PCMS for the past three years. He will be the pastor of an international congregation in Dhaka beginning in January of 1990.

Matt Welde remains the General Director of the PCMS. Bob Blincoe will temporarily fill Cody’s position as Executive Director.

Reaching Beyond the Curtain

Noting that Mikhail Gorbachev’s glasnost (openness) policy made it much easier for North American churches to link with churches in Communist countries, Dan Wooding founded ASSIST (Aid to Special Saints in Strategic Times), which has recently moved into offices on the campus of the William Carey International University. ASSIST is designed to be a life-link between Christians in restricted nations and those in the free world. The Sister Church Program has been estab-lished to help achieve this goal.

Churches participating in this program can pray for their Sister Church as they learn of its needs, send letters and perhaps Bibles and other literature, visit when possible, respond to material needs, and build the vision in their Sister Church to join the movement of finishing the task of the Great Commission.

For further information, write to: ASSIST, P.O. Box 1979, Costa Mesa CA 92628-1979, or call (714) 642-9496.
