USCWM Financial Update

USCWM Financial Update

Last time I promised to give an overview of our financial situation.

  1. On July 15, 1980 we were able to make the $280,000 downpayment on approximately 17 acres of additional property, the essential "second half of the campus." thus virtually doubling and completing our holdings.
  2. Meanwhile, by borrowing in effect a relatively small amount against these same properties we have been able to get current on our campus payment schedule. Note that this is like a burn patient getting a skin graft from another part of his own body. September 1st, one of our regular $175,000 payments will be due. We expect to be able to cover this from the same source.
  3. However, Billy Graham and Bill Bright are giving us increased visibility, and with that kind of help our one small gift $15.95) word of mouth campaign will leap forward, we hope. Since these small gifts are used only for property and since we do not ask for any further gifts, we are thus still under the same blessed pressure constantly to find new people who have not yet gained the vision. Giving your new vision and purpose to other people is the most valuable thing you can ever give. Please write for materials to share.

Edinburgh '80 Student Consultation gains momentum

The International Student Consultation on Frontier Missions is proving to be a crucial part of the building momentum of the Edinburgh '80 World Consultation on Frontier Missions. Already, response has come in from around the world, including key non Western sending countries such as Brazil, Hong Kong, India, and Korea.

"The convergence of mission agencies and potential laborers is really the genius of Edinburgh," says Brad Gill, head of the Student Liason Office in Pasadena. "It not only represents two different generations," continued Gill, "but reflects the two interdependent concerns of church¬planting and student recruitment in the Hidden People context."

Just in the past few weeks a student task force of Navigator, Inter Varsity, and Chinese student leadership has formed in Edinburgh to coordinate local logistics and operations. Two youth hostels have been located that will be used to reduce conference costs for students. Air fare wars are reducing travel costs for those traveling from North America and Hong Kong to London, an added savings. The student gathering will primarily be a grass roots movement with no one expected to officially represent any organization. "We are looking for the fresh and creative insight from a wide international student body," says Gill.

All applicants will receive preconsultation materials that will not only brief them but will call for their prayerful evaluation and feed'back. This information will help isolate the issues and concerns to be dealt with at Edinburgh.

For those interested in attending, please contact the Student Liason Office, Edinburgh '80, 1605 E. Elizabeth, Pasadena, CA 91104. (213) 794 2127. Ask for Brad Gill.
