Should We Have Ads?

Letters to the Editor

I say, “Do whatever is needed to get it into the hands of everyone possible.” MF is a tremendous help and catalyst in keeping the mission moving forward towards its completion. --Tim

Yours is one of several publications I use to keep “up-to-date” in missions. With many demands on limited resources, I find it unlikely I’ll be sending a regular $20. Advertising by appropriate agencies would be more than acceptable if it actually had content: where they are working, particular personnel specialities needed, etc.; and if there was no obvious bias introduced in the editorial content because of the advertisers. --Nora Adams, Wilmington, DE

Years ago I was given a wet suit but without all the paraphernalia necessary. I wanted to get into snorkeling and needed other supplies so the first thing I did was to get a diving magazine. I turned the pages looking at the advertisements. For me at that juncture, the magazine was more valuable for its advertisements than it was for its articles. It had specialized ads which applied directly to my field of interest. Advertising, if allowed, should fit very closely with the theme of the frontier peoples. --Anonymous

I think it’s a great idea to include advertisements from mission agencies in MF—helpful for everyone, and gives more people ownership of the magazine! --Linda

I think you should go for it. Typically, the only reason a periodical would not want to receive paid advertising is that it might influence or interfere with hard-hitting editorial commentary. For example, you might not wish to mention something negative about a missions agency if they were a regular advertiser. However, this does not strike me as being something you would have to worry about too often. Advertising could also help you buy computer equipment when you need it and things like that—items that are difficult to raise money for. --James

Regarding: What Color is Jesus, October 1997 issue.

Brother David Learner is in fact (a learner) and has indeed (learned.) The article is masterfully articulated and marvelously accurate. Thank you from at least one cross-cultural rookie in training. --Edward, East Africa

Thank You for Mission Frontiers

I praise the Lord for the U.S. Center for World Mission. Thank you for faithfully sending me the Mission Frontiers. I am 88 years old and read every issue through and thank the Lord. --Dr. & Mrs. Krikorian, Fresno CA

I am a fourteen-year old girl and went to Hong Kong with Teen Mania last summer. I really feel that God will use me full-time on the mission field when I am older. He has placed a love in my heart for the unreached peoples of the world. I would very much enjoy a subscription to your magazine. --Jennifer Price, Avon NC

You did it again! Mission Frontiers is hammering one crucial issue after another. The issue on dependency was great: pertinent, comprehensive, well balanced and practical. Keep up the good work. --Kenneth Mulholland, Columbia Biblical Seminary

Your last bulletin, Nov/Dec., was a gem! I praised and worshipped God for what He is doing and is about to do around the world. --Ken Spatz, Reading PA

I want to thank you for your enthusiastic work on this bulletin and your readiness to send a copy of it to us in eastern countries. As a pastor of a small church which is faced with problems of “small beginnings,” through Mission Frontiers I received very helpful and useful information and ideas. I would like to encourage you to go on with this work because it is helpful for us here on our field. --Stojan Petrovski, Macedonia

In my opinion, the information presented in MF is essential for understanding what God is doing in the world. In a time of seeming hopelessness over being able to reach the world for Christ, MF shows me, over and over again, that the task is not only possible, but could be achieved in my life-time (and I’m 54). --Chris Hogg, Kent OH.

John Piper Issue of MF

I just finished reading the recent issue of MF. It has excellent articles and the one by John Piper is highly recommended. If you want to be excited for the day and have more purpose to your life, read the article. It will bring you back into focus of what’s really important!! It is guaranteed to change you!!!
